Urgent need for pain meds for Haiti Print

pih_haiti_earthquake.jpgLike the rest of the world, UICC is deeply saddened and concerned by the terrible tragedy unfolding in Haiti. We send our heartfelt appreciation to organizations and individuals affiliated with UICC who have generously donated to the relief efforts thus far. We were especially touched to learn of the LIVESTRONG's pledge of $250,000 within hours of the disaster.

The Clinton Foundation is working with Partners in Health in Haiti (PIH) to find donations or low-cost sources for orthopedic supplies, trauma supplies, and other medical supplies (IVs, syringes, pain meds) for relief efforts in Haiti. They need urgent help in sourcing drugs and medical supplies – ideally donations but low-cost supplies are ok too. Please click here for the list of products needed. These needs are immediate.

Quantities have not been specified as the situation is rapidly changing on the ground. Casualties are in the tens of thousands and PIH is operating multiple hospitals (9 in the Port Au Prince area alone), so we can assume that the needs are quite large.

Top priority is orthopedic supplies.  The next level of priority is basic surgical supplies, pain meds, and antibiotics (particularly intramuscular antibiotics) + syringes needed for injection.  (For drugs we can definitely source from Indian generics.)

Finally, PIH is also in desperate need of medical staff, specifically surgical personnel (orthopedists, general and trauma surgeons, pediatric and plastic surgeons as well as surgical, post op and critical care nurses and nurse anaesthetists and anesthesiologists). If you know anyone with these skills that can volunteer in Haiti, please send them to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
